Does anyone know if a late model GM truck transmission (such as the 4L60E or 4L80E) will swap with an original '71 350 motor? Will the fact that it came from a 4WD truck make a difference? Also will the gear ratios work well in my Chevelle, or will they need to changes for better driving? Basically, I am looking to replace my TH350 with an overdrive tranny.

Thanks

They will physically bolt to the engine, but both will require a computer to operate correctly. The 60 may require floor mods and the 80 certainly will. Drive shaft will have to be shortened for both. Success with the gear ratios will depend on you rear end ratio and cam/converter match.

Other options are the Th700R4 / 4L60 and TH2004R. No computer, but you need to contend with converter lock up. The 200 hundred does not require drive shaft shortening.

And yes, 4wd makes a big difference! Different output shaft, no extension housing, a big difference indeed!
