My Wife Has A Jeep Liberty And I Hate It I Want Our Impala That She Traded For It Back. There Was A Diesel At The Dealership When We Bought The Gasser It Was 4000 More And It Got Maybe 4 Mpg More. How Many Miles Will It Take To Pay For The Engine?

Probably equal to the number of posts it will take for you to learn the proper use of capital letters.

Ok, - I guess I'm old - and a little surly today. Can Anyone explain this Capital Letter Beginning Each Word Deal?

My wife loves her Liberty. The diesel is supposed to get better mileage but here I noticed this morning that gas is down to $2.67/gallon but diesel is still at $3.10. That's like $8 a tank more, so if my math's correct it would end up saving you 1.18 cents per mile, so it would take 34 years at 10,000 miles a year to recover the initial cost. There may be other advantages to diesel though, such as lasting longer, but we wouldn't know that yet for this
engine.

The new software blocks the full caps lock on for folks who forget to turn them off. IMO it is easier than the whole post being in upper case. It does look goofy though. Quit pickin' on the new guys :D

IMO the diesel era is passed since it seems awfully ridiculous to pay extra for a slight improvement in mileage when the fuel is 25-35% more expensive now. Maybe if you wanted a decent tow rig like a duramax or cummings or power stroke, otherwise IMO there is no reason to own one.

Start getting waste oil from local dives and make your own biodiesel. Just find a chemical place to sell you pure lye and methanol in bulk. Then all you need is some tanks to mix the stuff in. Google it.

The only thing you have to 'convert' is that you can't have rubber hose in the fuel system. Replace them with synthetic type hoses and your golden

Update: http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html

Several differnt methods there, from small home brew to darn near production!!

Ok, Ok - an apology is due. I'm sorry BB68, don't let my snippy attitude influence your first visit here. This is truely one of the best, most informative, and well behaved forums on the net - of any kind.

Thanks Jeff - didn't know that the S/W does the conversion.

I went to the dealer and they are looking at just under $40 000 for one, only 7 in the province says the salesman so we are not dickering. I guess I will stick with the Jetta. Diesel here is usually 5-10 cents below gas and the old Jetta has over 300 000km so I am money ahead right now. Right now diesel is a little higher but I hoping that is temporary. Thanks for the response.
