I ordered my 3.73s for the 66 today. So I am going to run those with the current set up and then see if that cures the launch bog and if I get an improvement in my quarter E.T. With my current set up what do you guys think would be my best next future change. Keeping in mind I am not looking for a super fast street car. I am looking to hopefully get the car into the 12s. 12.99 counts!!
My present setup for those who have not seen it posted. Motor is a 355 with Trick flow aluminum heads, 180cc intake port, 64cc chambers and 2.02/1.60 valves. Present springs have an installed pressure of 94-96lbs and an open pressure of 480 lift =288lbs. I give the spring info for cam upgrade limits. Cam now has a .454 @.050 lift and .216 @ .050 duration. 1.5 stock stamped rockers and hydraulic lifters. Pistons are dished at either 12 or 15.7 not sure as the info I got from summit lists both. Intake is a Edelbrock Performer and carb is a 1406 Edelbrock 600 cfm. Headers are Terminators by Flow Tech and I believe are 1 & 5/8 inch. 2 & 1/2 inch exhaust with H pipe. 4 Speed Manual T-10 Richmond Transmission.

first off, nice 66 perry.i won't pretend to know it all,but if it were mine. i'd want a hyd cam that pulled to 6000 rpms ,9.5 to 10.0 compression, at least a 1" carb spacer on your performer, or better yet a rpm intake. 700-750 dp holley. (don't care for the edelbrock carbs) . true roller rockers would help ya. posi ? mt drag radials. you should be able to hook it better with the steeper gears also.

Yes I do have a posi and run it with BFG drag radials now. Bogs bad if I dead hook though so I have to get spin to run in the 13s. Hoping the 3.73s will help. Gonna have to get a new hood or drop down element to run a spacer or the taller rpm.

i have the summit drop base cleaner on my bbc with a rpm airgap. just clears the ss hood. it's like 15 -20 bucks.i don't think the 1.6 rockers will add as much as a step up cam ,but it would be easy compared to a cam swap between that and a better carb, and that spacer it should make more power for sure. 308's and 373's are like night and day. it'll feel faster with just the gear swap for sure. if it's hooking up with 308's, the 373's will put a smile on your face. i had a 355 iron head motor with more power than yours. started out with 308's also. man it was hard on a set of tires. burning rubber was not a problem. throwed some 373,and a posi in it,and it felt like a different motor under the hood. good luck with yours. tim

Thanks guys! I think I am going to try to tune the 1406 edelbrock for now and get a Holley eventually and try it as well. Edelbrock has been great with the exception of the bog at launch. I have not tried tune the carb yet so I will try that first as it is cheaper. It is tuned for Idle but not WOT.
