Well first I’d take the alternator to an auto parts or an alternator shop and have it tested. If that shows no defects next thing I would do is an amp draw test. Which involves setting a multimeter on the amp setting. If you don’t own a multimeter now is the time to get one. Disconnect the negative battery cable and with the multimeter set on amp touch one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead the the end of the disconnected negative cable. You should see an amp draw (battery must be charged). Then one at a time pull a single fuse from the panel and reconnect your meter as before. If you still have the draw replace that fuse and pull the next fuse. Keep going till the amp draw stops. When it does you have found the circuit that is causing the draw. Some circuits have more than one item but you have narrowed it down. Your charging system is not fused so that is why you should have alternator tested.

Even more basic, measure battery voltage before starting, should be around 12.5 or so. Then start car and check voltage at battery. Should have climbed over 13v. If not could be alternator, or regulator.
Previous poster had you looking for parasitic drain. Which will kill the battery while sitting and not running. A bad charging system will kill the battery while driving.

My guess is voltage regulator. Might be overcharging the battery and cooking it. Ask me how I know?

I was under the impression it was draining while sitting. The OP stated he only cranked the engine twice since purchased. If he only cranked it twice since purchase he hasn’t driven it. To me cranking the engine is not even starting the engine it just cranking the engine.
Guess it’s just a poor explanation of the problem.

I would disconnect the battery if you are not using it, these are 50 year old cars and the wiring is the same. Luck it is only draining the battery, could start a fire who knows.
Whether its 50 or 1 year old, why not fix the problem instead of a band aide. As stated above, a simple voltage test with the engine off should read around 12.5ish and with it running around 14.5ish. Running. if it's around 16v the regulator is bad, if it's less than 13.5 the regulator or alternator is bad.

You have 2 New batteries that are dead? have you had them checked? like already said it sounds like you have parasitic drain that you need to find out the faulty circuit, time for a multi meter

Did you you replace the voltage regulator before the battery drain issue or was it an attempt to solve the issue you still have? If the alternator was warm during charging there may be a short in the alternator itself .As mentioned previously, have it checked by a qualified auto electrical place.

Ok Brian, I will ask "How do you know". Only kidding!.

One thing with these new smart chargers if the battery goes really dead they will not charge. One way to get around this is to jump the battery and then attached the charger. These new charges if they don't see a voltage over 9 volts flag it dead and shut it down. By jumping it it fools the smart charger and once it starts charging you can remove the jumper cables. Either that or find a old style charger that will just charge and doesn't analyze the battery. Same goes with dead Lithium batteries that will not start a charge. Some times smart is stupid!

Remove the alternator and voltage regulator and that them to a good alternator/starter rebuilder. Keep the 10 DW system, it has a separate voltage regulator and is one of the best systems that ever came out...
