Just curious but when did you order your AFR 290 heads? and how long was the wait?

With the exception of the cam (240/240 - 629/595) and carb (prosystems), my motor combo is very similar. I have only had mine on a chassis dyno and it made 550hp/560tq to the tire so you can pretty much count on 640/640+ I would think.
I like this cam better for the 290's. Afr's don't need the split. Should be stout, 620-630 hp and plenty of grunt.

I ordered the AFR's the first week in April and it took about 6 weeks before I received them. Was told that is about the average wait time.

Why such a small cam you scare ? Those heads work very well ;)
This is mostly a street driven car will only see the track once or twice per year so while I am looking for some decent hp/ tq I still want it to have some reasonable street manners.

Good luck with your new build you will be pleased . Keep this in mind I have those heads with 260-266 @ .50 solid roller and it idles at 950 yet revs like a chainsaw shift recovery is awsome. It's like these heads just eat the duration up. Howards cams has some nice hyd roller shelf grinds. Have great day :)

Get with Chris Straub and he will give you all the driveability and leave nothing on the table with those AFRs. The heads are the reason I called it a little cam. You want to match the cam to your compression, heads, and driving style. I see 50-75 horsepower flying out the window with what you have.

A 231/239 @ 050 .600 cam isn't exactly small IMO for a street BBC. My 224/228 cam in my 502 is still kinda rowdy I think.

Use the cam - it is a great compromise for your intended use. I went thru the same thoght process and ended up using that hyd. roller version cam in my 496. Very liveable in crappy traffic and lots of grunt when requested. Engine runs clean and cool and is very deceiving as an undercover ricer eating machine. Ed
