I’ve been trying to find the part number of the neutral safety switch for a floor shifted 66 Chevelle.
I now understand that there are two options for the floor shift switch.
One is for a Powerglide.
The other is for a Turbo 350/400.
What I believe they are is:
1993696 - Powerglide
1993321 - Turbo 350/400
Can anyone confirm these are correct?
And more importantly, can anyone tell me how I can tell one from the other visually or electrically?
I have a switch but have no idea which one.
Thanks,

Are the clicks dependent on the switch or the detent plate on the shifter?
I would think the only clicks would be in the P-R-N-D range. Once its past neutral the switch doesn’t really matter does it?

Those are the correct original part numbers, though technically speaking the 1993321 is a 1967 part and not 1966 (no Turbo 400s came in 66 Chevelles).

Visually they look pretty much the same:

1993696 - Powerglide - NOS GM 65 66 67 Chevelle SS Chevy II Nova Neutral Safety Back Up Switch 1993696 | eBay

1993321 - Turbo 400 - RARE NOS GM DELCO REMY Neutral Safety Back Up Switch 67 CHEVELLE MALIBU 1967 | eBay

So the difference has to be internal, either number of clicks, or distance of travel of the moving part of the switch, or both.

Good luck!

I wish I’d have taken a picture but my issue is that the switch I have (unknown part number) doesn’t line up with the tab on the shifter. In other words I can’t get the tab on the shifter into the slot on the switch unless the switch is in (what I feel would be) the drive position. If the switch slot is forward to the park position, the tab on the shifter is an inch behind it when the shifters in park.

Actually, on close inspection of the two links you provided, the black plastic case are slightly different. Thank you for those.

PS- Your signature has changed. Have you reduced your fleet of rare cars?

Mine has "321" stamped on the metal side as a T400 car. I assume the PG would have "696" stamped, but maybe not. Powerglide is a different switch and would not work for a 3 or more speed car.

Not that this is identical, but this video shows installation of an aftermarket switch and how everything lines up.

Mine is aftermarket so has no makings. I did find the old receipt where I bought it from Summit years ago and mine is a 1993696, or “696” for a Powerglide. I’m going to take some measurements with my ohm meter connected and see what’s what.
