I got a bbc 402 that my buddy put a gear drive "star performance" in for me. I think he left the cam button out......... so my question is do I need that button in there for my hydrolic cam? I heard a sqeel the other day and i hope its not that cam trying to walk out? PLEASE EVERYONE SHARE YOUR OPINION?

Flat tappet? NO, those cams are ground to help keep them walking toward the back of the block.
Roller? YES, they need a button (or Gen 6 type retainer) to keep them from walking forward.
