I have a couple of 66/67 speedometers that I need to remove the orange speed indicator from. Someone mentioned gently prying up with needle nose pliers but I'm not having much success.

The only reason I need to remove it is so I can keep my original odometer mileage, but with a new face (The piece with the white lines)

Unless there is a way I can easily set the mileage in the replacement odometer to the original mileage of my car?

This is my original (63382 miles) and this face has the high beam indicator

I want to replace the face with this one, w/out the highbeam indicator

I used to work in the factory that put those together. They are pressed on. Put some tape on your gauge face and pry gently. They are soft thin metal so be careful. As you know the speedo is held on by those 2 screws. Looking at your speedo after you have taken it off the face you will see the odomoter. There is a white strip of plastic that engages the numbers. You can take this strip out and adjust the numbers by rolling them if you have to and then put the plastic back. For scars on the screws we used magic marker. I have seen the white faces and they do look good.

Thanks Rick, I was able to get both needles removed without breaking them, but in the process ruined the 10094 mile odometer. I also made the mistake of trying to gently wash the face of the non hi-beam bezel and noticed the white lines were starting to wash away also :clonk:

It's still usable though. As soon as I saw the white coming off, I stopped and just rinsed it with water

Yep thats what will happen with the cluster, you cannot use any cleaning solution on them, strickly a tack cloth or it will discolor and or leave streaks that will be noticable. Not even water.Hope yours isnt to messed up.

Luckily it didn't get messed up. I got it all back together, and dashboard back in car. I did make one bonehead move though, while reassembling the cluster. I took my time, making sure everything was in place, put all the screws back in, then turned the entire dashboard over so I could admire my work. Did a double take and a WTF. I forgot to put the orange speed pointer back on! :clonk:

Took it all back apart, and did it correctly this time
