I am trying to pick a torque converter and stall speed and I need your help. The engine is a 283 with L79 cam with 223/[email protected] .447 lift cam, camel humps heads, edelbrock intake and 600 cfm carb, HEI. Its running a 10-bolt rear with 3.08 gears. I hope to update to 3.73s later. the tires are 25.6 tall (225/60/15). The current trans is a powerglide. This car is a street driven driven on the highway at times.

I am sorta leaning towards a B&M holeshot 2400 or TCI breakaway (2200-2400 rpm), but I am thinking this is too much for the street with the current 3.08 gears. Will I hurt the trans when I go to 3.73 gears with too high or low a converter? what if I go with a 1900-2200 converter?

Thanks

I've got a B&M 2400 stall in my 700 with 3.73's. I like that it stalls above the bottom of the HP band for my cam (Eddy RPM) but in 4th gear is right around my cruise RPM on the highway.

Go with something in the 2200-2500 stall range. The converter will have lockup so that wont be an issue. With the lower first gear and 3.73's it will feel like a whole different beast.
