I had to disassemble my 69 tilt column (a real treat!) due to the little starter "rack and pinion" breaking. I got a new one and fixed it, but the upper column shaft bearing came apart. The web is plastic and is shot, so little balls went all over. I put some back and it's driveable, but I need to replace that bearing. Called a chevy dealer and got the run-around. Can't find it in any of the repro catalogs. Anyone have a tip?

I have a tilt column that was removed (and shortened) from a Caprice of the same era (65-68?). It is a little bit sloppy too, but I have been afraid of disassembly for the same reason you proved - little bearings are better left sloppy in the column, than held firmly in your hand. Any ideas where I could look for the parts to rebuild mine? I'd want the cancel cam, and all other internals if possible.

Dan,

Year one has some of the parts...more than other mail-order/internet places best I can tell. But they DON'T list the bearings.

Shooter,

Thanks for the number. I'll give it a go again at the Chevy place.
