I'm rebuilding the 396 CE block, 3969854 D-21-70 , 3931063 oval port heads. Block is a 4 bolt main. Came out of my 70 SS. Block has been bored 30 over and crank is 10 under already. That's where I stopped. Heads still need redone. Hard as heck to find a GOOD rebuild kit since they seem to be just slapping together what THEY want to sell you. Anyone have a kit # and supplier, or suggestions? I don't want to go crazy with it. Probably keep the stock intake due to factory SS hood and CI air cleaner. I have the original exhaust headers. Car has PS,PB,AC, 4 speed. I just want a good weekender with at least 475HP like the LS1 I had in it. I'm putting the 396 back in. I'm done d*cking around with the LS1. I want GOOD parts because I'm NOT doing this TWICE!!! LOL. I've been out of the mix for about 10 years and have no clue who all these new manufacturers are. Where did TRW go??? LOL

Speed pro took over for trw but even they have started to phase out numbers for pistons.

they have KB hyper pistons listed for 396/402
they have Icon forged pistons listed for 396/402

hyper piston says floating pin, the forged says either, probably have to weigh the stocker with pin to decide about balance, do you think common dual plane oval port manifolds are too tall?

I found the pistons and rods. Guess I'm .60 over on the bore. I'm trying not to buy new heads.

Sorry, .060 They got nicked up on top in the box. Been there for 10 years...
