Ok guys, I need to replace my current headers which have clearance issues for some plugs and wires. What can I get that is coated and will allow me access to the rear 7,8 plugs and wires on my 1970 396SS? Current headers are nice but I am having arching issues at the 7,8 plugs.

We went with Hedman's.

Joint X-ray Human body Jaw Organism

72 - ZZ502, stock frame, stock steering arm, CPP suspension kit, Hydroboost brake booster.
They fit perfect, no hammering, no interference, no plugs or wires hitting (I did put a custom length Taylor wire kit on).

Doug's on my 69 fit great. All plugs are easy to get at with a straight spark plug socket 781 heads

I have to say the Patriot Headers I got a couple of months ago are really nice with a think mounting flange. My Hooker's suck big time. While they do work, Hookers are always a PIA to put in and hang too low. I also have been told my others that Hedman's do fit very well.

Dont know about Dougs but to the 68198 credit they are made from 14 gauge steel and have 3/8 flanges and they fit without modification. What else can one ask for.

Had my Hedman 68198 headers installed on my numbers matching 70 SS 396. Took the exhaust guy longer to get out the wrong headers than to get the correct ones in. No modifications or banging necessary and although not perfect I can now access my 7-8 spark plug boots and remove the plug!!!! Biggest issue at the moment is that I have to get new wires with 45 degree plug ends and pick a color!!

Car even runs and sounds a bit different, for the better.
