Guys, I am looking at a motor that is a 454ci ( I think ) but cannot decipher the numbers on it. I think it is a 90 or 91 crate motor but need more help in identifying what it really is. These are the numbers that I found on it:

above timeing chain cover - T0330
on oil pan - XCH
Rear casting number 10069(maybe 8)286
Any help with this would be very much appreciated.

Thanks, Roland in NY

T0330-Tonawanda March 30

XCH-LS7 crate engine, this stamp is typically found next to the assembly date above the timing chain cover, not on the oil pan as far as I know.

FWIW you may also use a mirror to view the rear of the damper. The outer ring may have the number 3530 stamped in it and possibly be followed by the letter H. You may also find a
date code located on the backside of the outer ring as well.

John, is it possible to nail down the year, is it a 90 or 91 from the codes?

Mike,
the casting # appears to be 10069(or 8)286, also T0330, XCH, heads that came with the motor are #KI99 rect. port casting # 14096188 Hi Perf cast on them. Does any of this add up to a LS7 and what would be the HP / Torque?

Thanks Roland in NY

Mike,
I looked at the motor last night and the casting date is C220 ( March 22, 1990 ? ) and another casting id is CFB or 8, GM3P, and the oil filter area has been plugged with 3/8" pipe plugs. This appears to be a 1990 454. Any other comments on these markings will help.

thanks, Roland in NY

fyi

from old GM performance parts catalog

CFB or could it be CFD for Central Foundry Divsion

Any codes cast into the block for foundry use, mold ID, conveyor line etc. For quality control to trace source of any problems discovered later. They don't have any reference to how the block was later used.

The block could have been cast in 1990 and built into a LS7 in 1990 or even later. As you can see these were not street engines but for racing. Probably cost a lot of money for one.
