I've read previous posts but still need help deciphering some codes and stamps on my '70 SS. I wrote down some of these numbers in 1989 and can't recall exactly WHERE on the car I found them.

CE 164829, block number in front of right-side head. I've learned mine is a warranty-replacement short block, made in Dec. 1970 or 1971. Right? And 829 designates 402 ci?

3969854, stamped on top of bell housing. Next to it is GM 8T.

I wrote, "Tag # 3952659WB" -- no idea what I meant by "tag."

392566, main case.

OR201925, stamped on top of main case.

VIN 136370R201925. I'm told the "R" indicates my car was built in Arlington. Do numbers suggest it was built fairly late?

Thanks for any help! --Jon

CE = Chevrolet Engine
1 = 1971
64829 = 14829 CE Engine for 1971. Numbering started at 50000.

VIN indicates an early January 1970 production.

VIN sequence 201925 falls in early January 1970 for Arlington. And, just an FYI, casting numbers are not stamped, they are cast when the part is created in the casting mold. Stamped numbers/letters are physically done after the part was cast. As noted before, the "829" in the engine serial number is just part of the number and has no meaning for the engine size.
