I was driving my '68 today and noticed a lot of smoke out the back. When I pulled over to check it out, I found that the transmission was leaking fluid and the fluid was getting on the headers. I had taken the inspection cover off because it was cheap plastic and made a lot of noise. Anyway, I could see where fluid had been spun off of the torque converter. Does this mean the front seal is bad? I hope not 'cause this is a brand new transmission from TPI and I really don't want to yank it out. BTW, the fluid level was normal and not overfilled.
Thanks for your imput, Bill Shipley

Ok first off it's not a good idea to run around without a cover on the converter. That is just asking for stuff to get up there and get stuck...

Second sounds like you may have blew the front seal out... not what you want to hear but that is pretty common. although some have been known to have a converter with a hair line crack that will sometimes expand and leak all over the place...

good luck!
