Hello, probably really easy question but I thought I would ask. My 1966 malibu ss just received it's new motor and I have HEI dist. and I was told that the original "hot"wire is not 12 volts because it originally had points. I want to run a new 12 volt key-on wire and would like to know where I should run it from. Any help would be great!

thanks

Just change the wire and tie in where the original ballast resistor wire ties in. You have full voltage at the "R" terminal on the solenoid where it connects. Using a non-resistor wire in it's place will do the trick for you.

CJ is correct, just follow the resistor wire to where it plugs into the bulkhead connector, near the steering column. Remove the resistor wire, install 12 gauge wire in it's place.

The wire at the starter solenoid "R" terminal can be disconnected and NOT replaced. It is not used with HEI.

Thanks Schurkey, I wasn't sure about how it's hooked up with OEM setups.

Mine is completely custom, and my ignition is completely different than anything the General ever did.
