I'm trying to replace my ignition cylinder in my 1971 Chevelle Malibu. Does anyone know.. how? I guess.. Does anyone know if there is a "HOW TO" posted somewhere about this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can also go to www.corvettefaq.com
click on Jim Shea Steering Articles
click on A & F-car Steering Papers
scroll down to either the Standard (non-adjustable) Steering Column Section or the Tilt Steering Column Section. Click on the appropriate Disassembly & Repair Papers #1 and Disassembly & Repair Pics #1 for your type of steering column.

You will need only two special tools. The first is a steering wheel hub puller.

The other special tool that you may have to purchase or borrow is the lock plate compressor tool. This tool depresses the lock plate so that you can have two hands to "dig" out the small round wire ring that is imbedded in a groove on the steering shaft. (I have had my youg son, with strong thumbs, depress the locking plate while I work over and around him to remove the round wire ring.) The special tool is easier on the thumbs.

The job isn't bad.
