I dont beleive that the Generals cars had a flat or semi gloss black stripes for the hood, unlike F*&d or Chrysler products.
I think the stripes are gloss, and/or clear coated if going with a BC/CC.
Don't hold me too it though.
I just know that on Olds they were gloss

You asked: "what color do I use for the black stripes?"

There's this little DEVIL sitting on my shoulder saying, "BLACK!!!"

I just slapped the little critter off my shoulder. Actually, there is more than one color of black--not counting the metallics, reds etc.

The two major shades of black are commonly referred to as carbon black and blue black. Someone older or with a better memory can correct me if I'm wrong, but in 72, the black that was used was the carbon black.

The difference between carbon and blue black is significant when viewed side by side, especially in direct sunlight. The carbon black has a slight brownish tint as compared to the blue black. The blue black is a blacker black...does that make sense? Here's where my memory may be faulty, but I don't recall seeing the blue black on a GM car until the 84 Corvette. FWIW.

LOL!! I deserved that one!!

What I ment was the actual name as you gave me.

So they are gloss?? Man, I don't know why I always thought they were semi-gloss. Must be they were all faded when I saw them. LOL.

So the black out on my tailgate should be gloss too?

What about the color below on the rocker area? (below chrome).

Thanks for the help so far guys.
