Need cowl induction help

Is there a way to modify the vaccuum setup so the door opens and closes under regular acceleration, or will this only work for WOT?

Also, I was thinking of getting the inner door kit, but will this hurt performance in a 600+ horsepower car? Why two doors anyway? Do you really need an outer and an inner door? I would think if it's partly closed, it would hurt air flow period. I don't have the cowl induction air cleaner sealing it up as high rise single plane manifold and 4" tall air filter is not really compatible with the air cleaner lid setup, so it sucks air in from all under the hood.

 The CI door is controlled by that switch that's hooked up to the Gas Pedal. You should be able to adjust or modify the switch so the door opens whenever you desire.

With your intake and filter you are negating any benefit the CI would have. I understand that you believe the 4" Air Filter will increase air flow through your engine, but consider this: if you have a 780 CFM carb you will only, under optimal conditions, flow 780 CFM. How many CFM is the 4" filter rated at? And the Underhood air is hot and less dense than outside air. Therefore it could be better (horsepower-wise) to get 780 CFM of cooler, outside air.

You do the math, I'm too tired. http://www.fordfe.info/CarbMythFact.html

Get an Air Filter and a carb-to-Air Cleaner Spacer that seals up your CI system.
I could not get your link to work, and I run a 750 carb.

You really think a stock filter would be better then a 4" tall filter? I guess I figure the more air available, the better.

This also does not answer the point of the inner door. You would think if you seal it off to outside air only, you want as much air as possible which is not much through the cowl, and remove the inner door then run it. Why is it there?

This also does not answer how to get the outer door to open with regular acceleration opposed to just WOT.
the outer door is a marketing gimmick- it does nothing but tell everyone that you have a gizmo on your hood that moves..
the inner door is there to keep the fuel fumes out of the air inlet for the heater at the base of the windshield when the engine isn't running and keep cold air from getting into the air cleaner that way when it's cold enough to be running off the heat stove for driveability and emissions. in cold weather.
Excellent, so it being pointless as the car is not driven during the cold months, it is something I do not need to buy.
Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I think the 70-72 CI hoods are the neatest thing since sliced bread. Yes, it is a GM gimmick, but it's somthing that is/was one of GM's better ideas for performance cars. It's one of the first things I added to our 70 after we got it in 98, and I still love it!

Wow that takes awhile for your door to close. Right at startup mine shuts and once opened under hard acceleration it closes when I let off the throttle, doesn't slam but it shuts within a second or two (I have the check valve installed)
Not that my car ever sits outside, but when the car is turned off and the outer door is open, I beleive that having the inner door would help to protect thing like leaves, rain and snow from entering the air cleaner. may not have been the intended purpose of the inner door, but it doesn't hurt to have it to protect from the outside elements. JMHO.

I agree, mine is crisp with the gas to go up and down quickly.

See this video.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, just out of curiosity, why did you make a video with the car cover laying on top of the car???

Very nice car!

Dang how did you get the cowl door to open when you rev it in neutral? Mine will only open under about 1/2 throttle while driving ... would be cool to have that flapper do that at a light ;)

To be clear, the switch on the throttle controls the inner door. The outer door is vacuum triggered.

Yes, Wished mine would open and close. Mine just closes and seems to never open. I even took mine down to a pin hole size hole and it still stays closed with the vacuum line almost plugged.

I agree with that 100%! I think the flapper hood makes the car.
