Regarding Pypes HGH31 exhaust hanger set, if you have any clear photos that show how these hangers are correctly installed I would appreciate seeing them. Lots of people sell this kit but no one, including Pypes, shows how they are to be mounted. No doubt I can figure out a way but I'm interested in what is considered to be the correct way, prior to crawling under the car. Also, regarding mufflers, what is the best inlet/outlet position for a '64 Chevelle with headers?

 It appears to me that the Pypes HGH31 exhaust hanger set is pretty much a knockoff of the factory exhaust hangers (just in 2.5 inch diameter), therefore look at the appropriate page in your 1964 Chevelle and El Camino Factory Assembly Instruction Manual.

If you're using a factory style system, stay with the factory style muffler inlet/outlet position.

Thanks a lot for the link to that great video! Pypes made a nice install video but seems they didn't reference it on their website. It was very short and to the point so I had to play it several times and pause it to see exactly where and how the hangers should fasten. The last time the car had stock hangers was at least 50 years ago. Thanks to you I now have a real good idea where to look for the factory holes as well as the proper orientation of the brackets themselves.

A little follow up. Under the car I found out that the rearmost tailpipe hanger in the Pypes HGH31 hanger set is useless on a '64 Chevelle. There is no existing hole on top of either rear frame rail to fasten them as they are intended to be fastened. The gas tank makes it impossible to drill a hole. Will need to devise some hangers that fasten to the side of the frame rails as there are holes there.

The forward tailpipe hangers in the Pypes kit (ones with two straps) will mount OK using existing threaded holes in the rear cross member.
