I have posted this in the "wanted" section and have not received much feedback.

I am looking for a new rebuilt 396 or 454 for my '68SS, 4speed. Would like to have something putting out around 375+ HP for around 2K.

Thanks,
Saul

Who wouldn't?
Just going through a big block with a standard rebuild will set you back that much - with no speed/hp goodies. Not saying you won't find someone in dire need of cash but it may be a while. Have you looked into getting an engine from a salvage yard and using it as a core for a rebuilt one? Won't have the horsepower you desire initially, but it'd be a good foundation.

Why not rebuild your 396? Depending on its condition you should be able to freshen it up and then a bit more for $2,000.

$2,000, no problem - thats all my 468 cost (that is five payments of $2,000 each - unfortunately it misses 375 hp by 300 or so)
