Hi,

Can anyone tell me the drying time of this paint? I sprayed the trunk on my 67 and it seems to be taking a long time to dry. OR is this "normal".

Also, is there any other coating I need to put over this paint?

Thanks

Hi, drying time could be affected by humidity conditions. I used the GM splatter paint and dried pretty quickly. I waited a few days and then sprayed semi gloss clear over it. Looks great years later. Just give it some time.

I wasn't finding a TDS for it, does the back of the can say anything? The splatter paint in a can is usually water based, so it will most likely need a clear coat sprayed over it. If it's water based, temperature can affect the dry time.
Nothing on the back of the can at all about application or drying time. Still wet after about 5 hours. I'll let it sit overnight.

yup 55 degrees is too cold.make sure it is dry before the clear.i myself didn't like that napa spatter.i actually didn't like any of em so made my own.i started by painting the trunk with a chassis black,i then went to menards and got what was called stone grey rust-o-leum https://www.amazon.com/Rust-Oleum-7...ocphy=9018203&hvtargid=pla-334645107514&psc=1 and i slowly fogged it over the black.one thing i wish i would have done before that is to lightly spray a dark green over the black.but it still looks pretty nice without the hint of green

Made my own as well. I did my Elkie bed with a medium gray single stage enamel, then did the 'spatter' with different colors of unthinned lacquer, and the air pressure turned way low. You can get 'spatter' or 'webbing' using this method.

Got any pictures of your homemade spatter? Or anyone else with another technique to get that effect?

I’ve decided that I want the durability of Raptor Liner which I’ll be spraying thinned through an hvlp gun (for a less coarse texture) but would like some semblance of the spatter paint look.

That's as good as it gets. What product are you using?
Catalyzed solvent urethane sprayed from a gun. It's a 3 step process..

Sealer
Base color
Spatter

Each requires a different gun/fluid tip to spray.

I spray sealer with a 1.4 tip @ 26 psi (trigger pulled)
Basecoat with 1.3 tip @ 26 psi
Spatter with a 2.2 tip with very little psi. You need to fling the droplets on to the surface while managing the fluid tip via the trigger. Practice on cardboard or paper to get the desired pattern with air pressure settings.
