Once again....and I am really sick of this...my fence has been "compromised" by neighbors that think they can hook up to it, even tho it is 2 ft in on MY property.
When my house was built there was a field behind it, the field had a 5 ft drop down, so instead of makin the guys take a chance of falling while building the fence, i had it moved in 2 feet. Also, the people who lived to the left of me at the time, built a crappy "neighbor friendly" fence as they put it. 3 ft tall, crappy boards set in rocks in a totally clay soil.
Needless to say by the end of the summer thier fence was falling over. Well....thier big ass dog kept jumping the fence and tryin to attack my dogs, so I put up a cedar privacy fence and set it in by 2 ft so thier fence wouldn't lean on mine. SIX GRAND to do this.
Okay....new people move in last summer.
I told them and the new guy behind me THIS is MY property...and my fence. And INSIDE my property line. You many NOT hook up to it.

So what has happened?
BOTH of them...BOTH of them have hooked up to my fence.
In fact...I was so damn pissed, the guy on the left was takin his fence down while I was outside, I said "Jake. what are you going to do now your fence is down? Put up another one?" He had the chance right then and there to ask me permission. He walked away.
He then told me later that week that he took it down because there were snakes and chiggers in the space between the fences....that was where i put my sticks when I cleaned the yard up.
My property, not his problem.
He said "it looked terrible"....you should see his yard.
Trash everywhere, weeds 10 ft tall at the back....
anyhooo....i have TOLD these ppl to get their fence off...i have TOLD them IT IS MY PROPERTY, and noone seems to give a ****.
So now I am going to send them a letter telling them they have till end of April to take thier fence off my land or I will take it down myself.
One of them actually said "we are Christians and we love you"
We had over 35 in of snow in the last month, have they ever asked if I needed my driveway cleaned? nooooo
Kiss my ass and get off my land.
Their daughter also caused 400 bucks worth of damage to my trucks in my driveway by scratching them on the sides all the way down to the metal and the parents never said I am sorry or I will pay for it.
They now treat ME like I am the bad guy.
I HATE subdivisions.
any ideas other then just blow them up? :D
I mean ALL 3 sides have been taken my these damn ppl.
The ones on the right said "I owed them because they are a young couple with a baby", the ones on the left said "Our kids and dog will get out"...the guy behind me won't answer his door or respond to my letters.
aaaarrrggghhhhh...okay
rant over. thanks for listening.

A talk with an attorney and a certified letter may very well get you some results. Usually, at least around my neck of the woods, attorneys will give a free consultation on the first visit. May be worth looking into. If nothing more, the certified letter is proof to the courts that you have forewarned the neighbors before taking further action.

Try contacting your local building and zoning at the courthouse. Show a current survey and maybe they can get the neighbors to unhook from your fence.

Do you have a shovel?

Maybe once the first neighbor disappears, the 2nd one will get the message. l:)

When I bought my house 20 years ago, there was a fence 3 feet or so on my side of the property line at the back of my property. The city has an easement that straddles the property line due to an underground drainage culvert, and I can only assume the previous owner didn't want to risk having the county tear his fence down if maintenance was necessary on the culvert. On the other side of my property, the fence is about 1 foot inside the property line.

In the ensuing years, I have allowed both the neighbor behind me and the neighbor beside me to hook up to my fence. Both approached me for permission after getting dogs, and I granted permission to both.

It looks way better than having back-to-back fences with a "no-man's-land" in the middle that is impossible to maintain. I have never second-guessed the decision to allow hooking to my fence. It is a non-issue.

JMHO, but I think you're getting your blood pressure up on the chip over nothing.

In the state of Mo. once someone attaches to your fence they are responsible for 1/2 the cost of the fence that is on the property line. I think the only option is to contact an attorney. You will win this one I think. My neighbor built a fence but stopped about a foot short of mine because of this fact.

Bite the bullit and have the fences moved to the property lines? You have givin all of them 2' of your property. If you leave it to long they can try to claim it as thier's under the adverse posession law. Just went through hell and a ton of money when I found out my fence was 5' in on my property. I told the neighbor I was going to move the fence to the yard markers and he had me served with papers and got a restraining order on me. They were sueing me for taking their land! I ended up buying it from them for a third of the lawyer projected fees!
You could make their side of your fence ugly like Ron said. I considered doing the same since the neighbors had hung everytype of no tresspassing, dangerous dogs, & stay out this means you signs on the remaining fence along with a camera to monitor the fence. Fences and neighbors...........a ton of problems develope when they mix.

Listen to this man here.

I know how you are, Rach. I would want to do the same thing you do and proceed as you really want to. Its the principle of the whole thing, you are at wits end and at this point principle and disrespect is more of an issue than that actual 2 feet is even though thats at the root of it.

Attorney, contact the city and go that route. Ignore them from now on. You tried, its not worth your stress or wear and tear on your health. Have an attorney handle, send them papers, have the city work it and just tell these people if they stop over and ask or wonder, etc just tell them "Its in the lords hands now. I have prayed and prayed to the lord on high and he has blessed me with a great attorney." Then maybe start dancing around and speaking in tongues.

who mows that 2' section-in some states if the neighbors do, they can file a quick claim and take it
why not just let them hook up to it, move on to something important

Look at it like this, Thats 2' of yard that you DONT have to cut. Let them cut it. You're not missing that 2' becasue if you were, you wouldnt have brought the fence in 2'. THEY ARE CHRISTIANS AND THEY LOVE YOU. You should love them to and let them mow that grass. The time you could've spent mowing that extra grass is time now spent sipping lemonade and watching them mow. CHEERS

Two options:
1.Take your fence down and leave them hanging with out your fence there.
2. Move for the simple fact you have crappy neighbors.

It is todays mental thought process. NO CONSIDERATION OR RESPECT PERIOD. I have a neighbor that cuts the grass deep into my property. He says that he is just helping me out. I told him not to cut it that I will take care of my own property. He is a little pest that wont quit. Next thing it will be like squatters rights. It is just the mind set of the people today that just dont care about anyone except themselves and the will do what the heck they want. It gives me the RED RUMP, so I know how you feel. Let the officals handle it. It is not worth being on the wrong side of a court suit, when you are theone getting violated.
