So, with the help of my local machinist who did the heads and assembled the short block,I built this 454 for about $3600 total from intake to pan. That includes buying the heads, block and intake.
Sept. 1969 dated 512 2 bolt block
3964291 rectangular port closed chamber 107 cc heads, stock un-ported
K1303 Summit cam 238/[email protected] .540/.540 114 LSA
Comp Cams stamped steel rockers
.100 tall domed hypereutectic pistons .030 over (compression is approx. 9.5:1)
GM steel crank .010/.010
GM factory re-con rods
Stock oil pan/stock Melling pump
GM 3963569 LS6 intake

Might dyno test it down the road with 1 3/4" headers. Don't have any immediate plans for it yet,but might end up in something in our "fleet" one of these days.
Put it together for fun,so to speak.

We have a similar 454 with the same cam but with 8.9:1 compression and closed chamber oval port heads. Ran a best of [email protected] MPH in my GF's Chevelle
Should be a fun street engine.

Nothing wrong with 3/8 rods. Thousands made with them. I like the build.
The only thing with storing ready to use engines is the oil gravity drains from bearings and such. They need to be rotated so the valve springs don't go bad, and keeping all the holes taped so critters don't turn it into a low income apartment building.

NICE BUILD- When you think about all the old school parts most people dont want to deal with today, and what you can build with them? Not hard to build a good strong running 500-600 HP/TQ BBC for reasonable $. Which is great for a street car

Both of my Big Blocks have some "unwanted" old school parts. There are lots of old 396" blocks out there, and a ton more 454's.
