Re: My new Alternator charges at 14 Volts constantly-Is this correct???

I'm not the SME, but I believe 14.2v is the norm while your engine is running.

Re: My new Alternator charges at 14 Volts constantly-Is this correct???

Hi: Bought a new Voltage Reg, battery and Alternator for my BB 396 66 Chevelle. The Alternator constantly charges alittle over 14 Volts. Is this correct.......??? Thanks in advance..! Bob in CT
It's a little high if that's at idle ? but I wouldn't worry about it, as said before 13.8 is about average

The norm on a GM car is 14.2 at idle if working correctly. Your good to go!

Per original GM literature, the normal range for a vibrator point regulator system (that's what these cars came with--an external mechanical voltage regulator), the correct range is anywhere from 13.8 to 14.8 volts DC.

Lower than 13.8 indicates possible charging issues and the system may not be able to keep up with electrical demands. 15 volts and above will start to "boil" a lead acid automotive battery.

If you've got 14.2, you're golden!
