I was driving my 70ss today and went to shift from 2nd to 3rd and it wouldn't go in. Also tried going from 2nd to 4th, same thing. It was shifting fine before. What could be the problem? Its a M20 with a Hurst comp/plus shifter. Thanks for any help!

My guess is you have a problem with the 3rd/4th gear shift rod. Either it came off at either end or something is jamming it in the shifter. You have to look under the car at the transmission and see if a shift rod is loose or jammed.

I had worn out bushings on my old HUrst Indy 4 speed shifter - they just sorta jammed once, but I was stuck in second, could get to any other gear. I got underneath and manuallmoved the linkages until they wer aligned in a row at the shifter and that freed them up.

I checked the alignment with a 1/4" drill bit through the alignment hole, and everything seemed good. It will shift from second to third now but I cant just slam it from second straight to third, I have to go from second to neutral then third. Something doesn't seem right. I should be able to go right to third from second with a hurst shifter, right?

Yes, it should go almost straight through nuetral... if you have no mnake nearly 90° shifts through neutral, then it sounds like something is binding..??

Are there parts on a Hurst shifter that get old and wear out? This shifter was on the car when I bought it and looks old. Besides the shift rods binding, what else could be binding?
