I took apart my trans this weekend and I noticed that on the cluster gear at the front there is a thin gear that is attached with 3 rivots and is spring loaded...is this supposed to be able to rotate at all (around the gear centerline)? Mine looks like the holes are worn slightly allowing some rotation.

What does this thin gear do, anyway?

Should I buy a new cluster set?

Thanks!

Those make good throwing stars:yes:

That is what you should do with it. Take a large chisel, BFH and cut the heads off the thing and pitch it. It is a "anti rattle device" and a royal pain in the ass when you are trying to put the trans back together.

I cut every one I come across off and throw them in the trash. None of the new gears have that thing.
