Hey all. I have a 72 W code with non-matching driveline. Trying to figure out more on the tranny. Pretty sure it's a 1966 something or another really is a mutt I know that. Any more information would be great!

You probably don't want to pull the trans out of the car, but if you do you can tell a lot just by looking at the input shaft and counting the splines and the number of rings.

If that is out of the question, then pull off the side cover. Look at the gears and you can tell if it is an M22. If not, look at the front of the counter gear for a plate held on with three rivets. If you see this plate, you have an M20. If there is no plate and the three rivet holes are absent, you have an M21.

I won't be pulling it any time soon. I do have to fix a few minor leaks from the trans anyway which probably will require pulling the side cover off.
