I have a 402 I would like to put in the 79 and I would like to put the 383 in the transam I just wanted to know if there is any problems I would run into with the 79? and how long do you guys think it would take to swap both motors in both cars?and I have a spare 350 block would my 305 crank and rods work in it.

There is considerable difference between swapping a big block into a '79 and swapping it into a '89. Which is it? Assuming that the Camaro is a '79, the actual engine swap is gravy. It's everything else that requires a little insight into the variations of possible combinations. First, the easiest possiblity would include keeping ALL accessories and brackets originally associated with the big block. ALL brackets are different. If the mounting locations are incompatible, expect some serious research, exploration and/or fabrication. This would introduce an additional variable, short (pre '68)or long (post'68) water pump.

I recommend using the long w/p set up. Parts are easier to locate and are consderably cheaper. Besides, I think that it would also position the alternator on the correct side for the stock camaro wiring.

Good luck, it can be a bitck if you get halfway into this job before you realize that everything is not interchangeable.
