What is the best way to repair holes in a monte dash panel and get the grain look back in those spots ?

This isn't a repair per se,but if you take the black wrinkle paint used for valve covers, and spray the woodgrain insert with it,it comes out looking MINT.You won't have the "wiper/washer" and "lighter" lettering, but you don't have to fill the holes in.Filling in the holes,if done right is the way to go,but I thought I'd offer an "alternate" option.

I'm getting ready to do a Monte dash and I don't think it will be too difficult except for the Wiper/Washer lettering. There is a hole right in the middle and I'm not quite sure what to do about it. Has anyone had this problem and if so let us in on your secret!
