Hey guys I recently had a blue printed mild build done on my tired 350 SB. Ported 40 over, Iron Eagle heads 180cc, edelbrock aluminum intake and Com high energy cam 212/218 edelbrock 4 barrel carb. Builder wants me to use Mobile Devac 5w-40 oil. Builder is Paul Mecure who is well know in race circuit. Just thought it was odd to use a oil recommended for desiels, but he has built a lot of race engines so who am I to question. Have been told to go with what the builder recommends he knows the build and the clearances.

I use the Chevron Delo in all my old car, till I went to Brad Penn. The diesel oil has more zinc in it, but over the years they have remove some of it also, that is why I changed to Brad Penn, My sod still runs Chevron Delo in his 70 SS.

I use Shell Rotella T6 synthetic for the same reasons the Delo gets recommended. These oils all have higher numbers for things such as zinc and molybdenum for wear prevention metals and detergent cleanser compounds and yet are still reasonably priced.

The Shell Rotella T6 has also internally cleaned up my LS swap engine for sludge and varnish.

PS all diesel oils have an extra dollup of detergents vs gasoline rated oils. SO they clean well.

Paul must know that DELVAC has one of the most stable bases of all the diesel oils. We had a diesel once that would like to "eat" oil for fuel through the rings. For reaons I never understood, DELVAC held this off for much longer in its life than other oils. I can only guuess its base is very stable. Great oil. DELO, ROTELLA ( least stable base) were also used in our thirsty diesel mule. DELVAC stood out. DINO only. Synth was pure fuel in that old tired compression engine!

This does not mean its a "better oil". WTF do I know, I aint no chemcial engineer? But it was more stable in an unstable operating environment.

ALSO, I ran my 427 for YEARS with its solid cam and stiff springs on DELO + EOS ( zinc addiditve). 20K miles and the cam was mint.

Its what we used to use for our flat tappet engine Hot Rod Ed. pour in the DELO and LITE EM UP!
