I'm trying to convert my BB to a mini starter setup. I think I need to go from a three wire setup to two. Quetion is, how? Am I going to have to run a remote solenoid or is there another way?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've run several searches on this site, but haven't quite found the info I'm looking for.

If you have a points type distributor you really need a solenoid with two small terminal posts - "S" & "R" because you need the yellow bypass wire from the "R" terminal to the coil's + terminal to get 12 volts to the coil during "start/cranking"

You could ad a simple relay operated by the purple "S" wire if you can't find a 4 post solenoid for your starter.

Actually I would try and hook it up and see what happens. A few cars start for a long time with ignition switch problems and it's not noticed until the switch to HEI. Won't hurt anything. Worse problem you will run into is firing the engine. If it acts up then you might have to make another change.

I know it has been along time since this was originally posted, but I wanted to thank everyone for their help. I got the starter installed and it works great. I went the remote solenoid route and couldn't be happier. Should have made the change a long time ago. Too bad I'm getting ready to sell the car.

Again, thank you.
