Okay I feel like I have read everyones opinion on this and would like the Team members opinion, what is the preferred method of attaching a stock type pickup to a Melling 77 oil pump on a my 427? I am using a stock oil pan and installed the pickup into the pump already after letting the pickup set in the deep freeze at 5 degrees all night. It popped right in and now is kind of loose in that it can be turned side to side without much resistance. I have a Lincoln 175 plus mig with some .023 wire in it now, would this work? Thanks

Years ago I had a friend who tacked my pick-up on. After a half season of racing it fell off . I took it to work and a pipe fitter said since the pump was used and they were different metals that it would work better by braising it .It did . Lasted many years no more problems.I dont know enough about welding to be the final answer ,but I know this fix worked good for me.

cast iron + steel= it will eventually fail, i really needs to be brazed on, some people still do weld it though

Weld it at the housing, but also make a small bracket to bolt to the bottom cover. That is good insurance to have both.

Weld the casting with all the heat you can and roll the bead onto the tube.

X3 on brazing needs to be cleaned good & brazed all the way around. The cover should be flat sanded after though.

May just buy a new pan with a bolt on pickup tube. I always ran an aftermarket pan before with a bolt on pickup tube. This is just a 67 with 427 that is going to be a driver/play toy, no racing! Does anyone have a suggestion or know of a pickup tube that bolts on and is compatible with a stock 67 Chevelle pan?

Okay next stupid question, I am using a Melling 77HV pump is part# 305s screen-oil pickup correct for a 67 Chevelle pan with a 396/427? I don't remember them being as small as the 305s.
