OK eric and others. The firebird needs full quarters that are not available. Only choice is to butt weld a skin which i am very good at. However i am getting better and need some advice on the warpage. I used the shrinking the weld technique on the truck website on the floors with super results. BUT, there is only so far you can go down the quarter weld seam before you run out of room. It starts about half way down the quarter. You can not get a slapper or dolly behind here. Do i use a stud gun to bring up the lows?

I used a crowbar as a really long dolly to get behind the areas I couldn't reach. I still couldn't get them all. I figured most was not as good as all but better than some.

Cut an access hole in the wheel well so you can planish the weld seem.

Also try pre- stretching the panels BEFORE you weld them in place. Ive yet to try this technique but have seen the results in person. Basically the idea is to stretch out the weld zone, then when you weld the seem shut the metal shrinks back down to a natural state free of warpage.
Its not a perfect method but it does work in spots where you just can not work the seem.

All it takes is a few hammer hits on a dolly down the seem on each panel.
