Mellings M77 Plastic Bushing

Throwing my 427 back together. The old pump was a Mellings M77HV. The new pump is a plain M77. Installed the "Blue" spring. My question is: What is the plastic sleeve/bushing that came with it? My old one didn't have one. Whats this for?

Recommend not using the "plastic" sleeve (retainer) to hold the pump-driveshaft in position when using ANY HV or HP pumps. These sleeves do break occasionally.

Get the driveshaft that has the "steel" sleeve for a retainer. Melling part #IS-77! (The plastic sleeved one is part #IS-77A)

Thanks, Gary in N.Y.

P.S. Also would recommend installing the "pink" pressure-relief spring found in your HV pump in the new M-77 piece! Spring is Melling #M77020
