I watched about 3/4 of the coverage as I usually record and watch later- mostly to skip the endless Corvettes ; )
They got to the Gary Sinise Foundation Bronco and was amazed and slightly pissed off as I watched some jerk set his drink down on the hood of the Bronco while they were trying to auction it! (he did this repeatedly)
I couldn't understand why he wasn't: shown the door, asked to sit down or least told to stop.
Anybody else see this?
Thoughts?

I guess I was like most people enjoying the auction and raising money for a good cause to even notice! That's certainly bad behavior though.....shamefull actually.

We were watching and my wife noticed him do it first and goes look at that idiot putting his drink in the hood and then she goes look he did it again. No etiquette and that how you can tell they are def not a car person

I was disappointed at the Motor Trend live coverage did not last until all of the classic cars had passed across the block. I wanted to see how much the Black 1965 Z16 (Lot S291) clone went for. I can see it sold that's it.

That^^ actually explains a whole lot about those auctions. I hadn't considered that.
Never occurred to me either. This explains why it costs the average Joe, a shitload of coin for a rusty project.
Booze.

I watched about 10 minutes here and there. I saw the NASCAR Superbird sell for over a million and the guy who bought it take a swig of his beer immediately after the gavel. Now, I have no idea how much that car should've so for, or whether the bidders were intoxicated, but I've long questioned the wisdom of mixing booze and buying ANYTHING. I also saw the Foose/Sinise Bronco, but my own Bronco reserved in '21 and built in '23 just got delivered, so I was too busy admiring the rig to notice the glass, lol. What's even funnier is that I was lucky to get my '23 Bronco as optioned, because several options are already out of stock, but that's a whole other story.

A lot of good replies here.
So maybe the guy was buzzed and forgot his manners.
But just having a little thought for others isn't that hard.
Keeping the clientele "lubricated" no doubt helps loosen purse strings.
Mecum should keep a better eye on things.
It's supposed to be fun, the money aspect really kills it for a lot of people.
Turning into a rant here I guess so I better stop.
Have a good one!

Alcohol and Ego def play a part in the auctions, depends on people. With Barrett each bidder gets ten free drinks per day and each guest pass they get gets the same. Trying to impress friends and be on tv is a real ego stroke.

Maybe he was boozed up. That makes people do stuff they normally wouldn’t do. Like bid too much for a car???
That in a sense might make allowance for such behaviour, that recklessness might also extend into bidding.

Still, pretty ignorant and disrespectful behaviour.

Decades ago I rode my new XL350R to work. When I came out after work, an attractive Asian woman was sitting on it posing while a guy was photographing her and a posse was standing around. Amused and perterbed, I just got on my bike & rode the 70 miles home.
