Hi Everybody!
Getting ready to purchase new gauges. Struggling with decision of Mech. Speedo vs Elect. Speedo. Any thoughts or opinions. Electric speedo costs more and I will have to buy Speed sendor for trans.

The question you posed boils down to personal preference.
My preference is mechanical, as in keeping all original dash.
If you are installing all new, make it like you want.
Electronic speedometer will be more expensive with the sending unit but may be more accurate if that is important to you.

The advantage of electrical is the option of recalibrating easily for gear,tire size changes. John

I converted to electric due to a transmission swap. I got the 5" gauge due to matching my tach and having the easy calibration for tire sizes etc.

Was probably a mistake. I have the sweep style dash and am now having to build a face plate over the dash to mount the gauges. Have not tried an SS dash, but 5" gauges do not fit at all in any form with the sweep setup. Thought I could just pull the speedo and put the gauges behind, nope, a/c and wiring in the way.

Not to mention how much plastic screw holes and brackets break when pulling apart the dash. Just not really worth it.
