Have 496, aluminum heads, 575/595 lift 248/[email protected] and 10.5:1 compression. Bought MSD Pro Billet distributor with 6AL Box. Problem is I bought mechanical advance ONLY distributor. This was recommended to me by the person selling but the more I read and think about, I think maybe I made the wrong decision. The car will be driven on street mostly and draged once and a while. Thinking I should of done the vacuum advance dist. to help with mileage (if thats important w/ this motor), driveability, etc. Understand that cam producing less vaccum at idle and low speed can confuse the vacuum advance but read you can by cans that start advancing at less vaccum.

Anyhow, my question is, did I make the wrong decision and if I did, is it possible to put the vacuum advance can and mechanism on an original Pro Billet Mechanical distributor.

THANKS

Yes you need it if you are driving it on the street.

Don't worry about the low vacuum, just use ported source.

Use the 18* bushing so you can have lots of initial.

I just bought a custom bushing set that has 10, 12, and 14* degree bushing for my MSD HEI from 4secondsflat.com. $31 dollars to the door. (Thanks Mike).

I basically have the same set up. More cam though, same compressioin. I currently have it at 24* initial, 12* advance, 36* total. I did this to my Pertronix HEI by welding the slots. I just went ahead and bought the MSD to do it right.

Sorry, but you can not do that with that distributor. You can read that HERE.

The rears are MT Streets 295x65x15's.

You can see pics of the new motor HERE.

Happy to help out. I have recieved a ton of help from good people here, so I try to return it when I can.
