That's a great tune and a great arrangement. Check out Windy and Warm by Chet Atkins--similar style, not quite as complex, might be a good ramp up to that tune. Also, if it's finger-style you like, definitely go with a smaller parlor-sized body like a 00-. but, if you're mainly a strummer, you can't beat the sound of a D-28 or D-35 strung with .013's.

So, us Chevelle guys do have other hobbies?? ...

One of my favorites...I like to play it a little faster.

I like that Black Mountain Rag--tricky in that dropped tuning--I believe it's a dropped D, a dropped G, and a dropped D on the high side. Looks like a fun one to jam on though!

I'm actually Sales Manager for DigiTech guitar effects, have also been Sales Manager at Lexicon, beyerdynamic, EMG & Washburn Guitars. So my career is music, I also still actively do studio work and record my own music. Cars and bikes are my other passion.

You can't beat a Martin, though I'd look for an older one that's already broken in and opened up.

I bought my Bass in 1964 for $75.00. Its a " 58 " P. Bass. Still play, No plans on Quitting. I still would like some players to bring some gear to C.B. 11.
And have some fun at the Best Western, in Goodlettsville.

cool. I've got a 1983 Les Paul Studio that I bought in 1987. It comes out once in a while but I mostly play my Alvarez tbhese days.

Noe that I know there are some musicians, I'll bring it to CB if we go this year.

Black Mountain Rag is cool.

Saw him in a concert in a city park in Scottsdale Az awhile back. He played "Battle Hymn of the Republic" and "Dixie" at the same time on the same guitar. No trouble hearing either one. At the end of it he said "For you critics out there, I played a mistake in that tune. It'll be the only one tonight, hope you got it." LOL

Martin D-28 in my future.
I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Blueridge guitars.
There's a lot of talk about them on the internet, including a forum dedicated to Blueridge guitars.
They're well constructed and their Dreadnaught design has a tone comparable to a Martin. I kept hearing guys (including some former Martin owners) talking about them, and finally went to a music store a few years back to check one out.
I ended up buying a Blueridge BR-160. It's design is similar to a Martin HD-28.

I've played a number of acoustic guitars over the years, including Martin and Gibson, and this is by far my favorite acoustic guitar that I've ever owned. I'll never sell this one.
I actually like it better than the Martin. The tone is incredible (and keeps getting better the longer I have it) and the action is better than the Martin.
The BR-160 currently sells for under $1000. Really an incredible sounding and playing acoustic guitar.

Can't beat that "Great Gretch Sound"
Here's a video of Brian Setzer playing "Sleepwalk" on his Gretsch.
We went to see Tom Petty in Charlotte a few years ago, and Brian Setzer opened for him.
Damn, I could have listened to this guy all night. I enjoyed his set every bit as much as Petty's set.

Taylor guitars are pretty sweet too. I had a 410 Dreadnought but it sat in the case. Sold it to a buddy that plays daily. They're worth checking out.

I've heard nothing but good things about Blue Ridge.

I was over at a buddy's place a few weeks ago playing his D-15 and his Taylor. The Taylor measured up quite favorably.

The Taylor's are great guitars. They're different than Martin in that Martins are built in tradition, using traditional methods and materials, the same way they've been doing it since the 1800's. Taylor seems to be a bit more of an innovator. They experiment with different layouts for bracing, woods, and have IMO, the very best "pickup" system available in a guitar today, the Taylor Expression System. As a finger-style player, the smaller "12-series" body (ie--612, 412) is super responsive and has good projection. Not as great for strumming though....but, they make a great jumbo for that!

I just bought an RP255 a couple of weeks ago. Still exploring all the tones and effects but so far I'm very impressed with the unit. Love playing around with all the patches people are coming up with. Thanks!

Both the Taylor and the Martin were dreds. The Taylor seemed a bit brighter sounding to me, the Martin warmer. I liked the warmer sound of the Martin and the way the Martin was finished, but I would not be the least bit unhappy with the Taylor.

This may be irrelevent but I built the last two acoustics (a 12 string jumbo & a 6 string OOO) and I have to tell you, it was one of the most satisfying experiences I've had. I also have a Taylor 815C and a Taylor LKSM12 and I like my home mades better.

If you like to work with your hands (who here doesn't) it really is a great thing to do. I would compare mine to any $3000 guitar.

You can get customized kits from Luthiers Mercantile in CA.

It does reqire patience & attention to detail but seeing some of the cars we have, that shouldn't be a problem!

Martins are awesome....sound reaaly good.

Dream acoustic guitar however is a Gibson SJ200. Pure sexiness.

My current stable of stringed instruments is a greTsch 5120, Fender Strat, Takamine 12 string and a GODIN / Simon & Patrick 6 string Dread that sounds incredible...as good as any 2500 guitar and it onl cost 450$.
