He did good, Juan Pablo was a sore loser as usual and Jr just can not catch a break. I do believe Dale will have some words with Reutimann about his driving.

I also thought that one of those last restarts would do in Mark. figured Hamlin or Montoya would overdrive and take out whoever was outside him, or they would let him go to play it safe. If they got next to Mark theose guys might have run him up the track for the win. Lucky Montoya respected him like he did.

Not sure Reut did anything worse the Dale JR does a couple times a year, he just overdrove and washed out. It's a shame, but it happens to most of those guys every now and then. Typical of Jr's luck.

Mark Martin has always been the picture of class and I can't think of a better ending to the
Nascar season than Martin winning the chase to cap an outstanding career.

I am a big Jeff Gordon fan. I was also a fan of Kyle Petty before he retired (Wasn't the same after he joined his dad's failing team and his son got killed). But this year, I'm pulling fo Martin! COME ON! This was the first race I watched in a long time because our cable was cut and so when they moved off Fox...enough said. This was a great race. I was on edge at that last restart. Dale fans, please read below:

GET IT THOUGH YOUR HEADS! Dale Jr. is NOT like his dad IN ANY WAY. He doesn't race like his dad, he doesn't win like his dad, he doesn't even have that "spirit". He always wrecks, runs high on the wall. And so when he does this and crashes, he blames someone else. At first, I too thought it was because of him being on a bad team. But now he is with the most dominant team in NASCAR and things have not changed much. I was a fan of his dad, Dale Earnhardt Sr. but Jr. is a different man. :noway:

You are correct, sir. I put up a thread a couple years ago wondering why Jr is so popular ... heard a lot of excuses why he wasn't winning with DEI - bad equipment, etc.

Um, now he's got the BEST equipment a racer could ask for, and he STILL isn't winning. :clonk: What's the excuse now, hmmm? Could it be that he just plain sucks? ;)

I took my Mom out to dinner today for her birthday, so I didn't see any of the race.
GLAD TO HEAR Mark won, and it would be GREAT if he wins the championship.
Also, tell me about it, what's this spoiler deal??????????? I have no clue.
Dale Sr vs Dale Jr? No, Jr is NOT his dad and he doesn't have the successes his dad had, probably for several reasons. BUUUUUUUUUUT, we in our house STILL like him, so be gentle with your remarks about Jr when you're around us. :D
And here is one of the fondest memories I will have forever about Sr.
After he autographed the 56 Vette (see it, underside of hood) with my youngest son, Zac (who now has a wife and 2 kids).

I was in disbelief when the Intimidator died! The newspaper that read "Black Sunday" was awful. The whole newspaper was about Dale. That picture gets at my heart. Again, I loved Sr. I don't hate Jr. don't get me wrong, but he is riding along on his dad's fame. If it wasn't for Sr., would Jr. be as popular?

The spoiler is that the originator of this thread used "Mark Martin wins at Loudon" for his title. So when you open up BR - there it is - who won the race. I'd prefer a more generic title for threads like this - say "Great Loudon Race" or the like. I usually tape races for later viewing.

As far as Jr. - I don't hate him or even dislike him, just tired of the hype. Start winning some races and I'll have more respect for him.

Great photo of Dale Sr., Tom. Now THERE was a racer! I still miss him and Nascar lost a lot of its luster when he died. :( For me, anyway.

Glad to see Mark Martin win - I hope he wins it all!!

Yes, I agree 1000%! I feel NASCAR has dropped alot in the last 8 years or so..

COT cars...biggest blunder ever created, if I wanted to watch IROC racing...you get the idea.

Multi-car teams..another idea that while needed, has taken out alot of good drivers that may never see NASCAR because of high pricing, sponsors, etc. Only the multi-car teams have the money to survive right now, so if you cant get in with one, chances are you won't be too successful, if at all.

I was also a big Sr. fan and deeply miss the black 3 out there. I think he rolls in his grave seeing what this sport has become. I understand fan safety and driver safety, but the drivers know these risks (at least Sr did), and the racing could be as good as it was back then as it is now if they would just dump that POS COT design and go back to actually using 2 door street car bodies like it used to be..

OK, my rant is over:D..if anybody likes it this new NASCAR, I apologize to you. But I could never watch it as religiously as I did 8 or nine years ago.

I agree with everything you said, accept I always thought Dale Sr was a dirty driver and should have been (would have been if he wasn't the france's darling) nailed for rough driving in half of the races he won. I was not a fan but had to admire his talent, after of course, he wrecked everyone racing with him.

I used to be a Gordon fan, but he should retire he's finished. I was a big time Richard Petty Fan, Kyle is OK as a commentator, but like Jr. He wasn't nearly as good as his grandfather and father. I had high hopes for his son, who seemed to be a better driver than he. The Bodines are from my home town and I grew up watching Goeff who was a couple of years older than I race modifies on his dad's short track. So I was a big time fan of his as well.

He is one the top 5 drivers right now, and thats finished?

Wow, exactly opposite of what I try to instill in my children as I raise them. I dont ever want to see them quit doing something purely because they arent winning every single time they play.

I guess being one of the 5 best drivers, and doing what you love to do isnt reason enough to keep doing it :(

Maybe that was a little strong. But he just doesn't perform well in the COT, sure he runs well in spurts, but he just doesn't have it like he did 8 or even 5 years ago. Look at how he ran today. Up front for the first quarter of the race then back to what, 20 something and finished 17 or 18. He slipped 4 slots today in the chase standings. His team just doesn't seem to be able to improve the car when they need to. And he doesn't seem to be able to drive it if it is not just so. Remember back when he could slide the car though corners the way he did the sprint cars he used to be so good with. Now he slides his car into the wall on almost every race. The Pit work is bad, if I am not mistaken he lost several spots on every pit stop. Just compare his performance with his team mate Jimmy Johnson. Do you really think he and his crew are as good as Johnson right now? Have they been as good as him anytime in the last 4 or 5 years? His back is gone, he has been playing hurt and how many times has he admitted himself that it has an effect on his driving. Did you see him drive the Daytona Proto this last spring. (I know Johnson screwed one of those up also) but Gordon hit the wall exiting the pits and put the car out of contention. It just seems a shame for him to end his career as one of the guys that used to be great, but is now a also ran. Wouldn't you prefer to see him get out as one of the top 5 drivers and go into sportscasting or become a team owner rather than end his career this way.

Sorry about the spoiler, but think of it this way, because of me you now had more time to work/drive your Chevelle and tell the wife your watching the race. Your right these muticar teams make it hard for the smaller guy's. Bobby LaBonta #71 quailfied 8th but didn't have money to run, until a local bussiness got together and sponsored him. That's sad.
