Manual Steering Box

1020 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Cam
While upgrading my suspension and steering I found that my manual steering box has slop (play) in the arm movement. Can that be adjusted out or do I need to get it rebuilt or maybe its time to upgrade to power steering.

Pay heed to Doug's advice!

You can adjust a Saginaw manual steering box for wear & slop removal to a point. There is a slotted bolt that protrudes through the top cover. You can turn that bolt to adjust the preload. When the bolt goes down too much, like to the level of the cover or lower, you can no longer adjust it and it must be rebuilt.
