so i have to pull the engine/trans from my 64 to replace the freeze plugs. i plan on converting back to an auto while its out.

its a 64 el camino, origonal 283/pg car. currently has a 73 350, and an unknown manual 3 speed floor shift in it. steering column parts are all still there, but no linkage, lines, etc.

i think i have a buyer lined up on the trans/bell/clutch/flywheel, which will give me the added funds to put the auto in.

what all parts other than flywheel, converter, cooler, lines, trans, mount, tv cable bracket, and linkage willi need?

any reccomendation on what linkage setup to go from my column to the 700?
how about the tv cable bracket? can i use one from a TBI ingine, as i already have it? will i need anything to adapt to my carb?
any driveshaft differences?
anything i dont know about this swap, or is it as straight forward as it seems?

thanks, guys. this is the first for going from manual to auto. usually i go the other way...

You've about got it figured out. I did this in my 56, from column 3 speed to a 700. I think, but not sure, that Locar is who made the shift linkage I put in. I had to have the drive shaft shortened, was about 100.00. cut, welded, and balanced. I used an aftermarket crossmember, but I know stock ones can be modified to work. When I'm ready to fire the car up, I'll take it to the guy that built the tranny and make sure the TV cable is ok before I put miles on it and burn it up. Good luck, you'll love the change. I've put 700s in other vehicles and love them.

Talk to guys that rebuild/sell BOTH the 700R4s and 200R4s. I have and they tell me for my 1964 C-10 pickup that the 700R4 would be a better swap. Mine is a weak Vortec-headed 350 (probably 300hp at best) and they say a 200R4 takes more power to run and simply isn't the cat's meow for a street car....
