Hi:

I have posted this question before but my mechanic keeps telling me I need heat risers. I have a 67 SS with 396 with stock exhaust manifolds.
He said I need 2 because the studs are long on the exhaust manifold, or
possibly at least a spacer. I don't care if it looks stock, as it has more than 3 upgrades. Any help to clarify this situation will be much appreciated..... Thanks. Don

I think that you can buy a spacer to eliminate the heat riser. It really isn't needed in the summer. It's more for cold weather. People running headers don't use them. I also blocked off the heat cross over and added the GM heat shield under the intake on our 396 as there was too much heat getting to the carb.
