I'm still looking for my 68 Camaro that Richard David Navarro stole from me over 20 years ago. Guy disappeared from the face of the Earth. One day he can tell my story.
I feel your pain. Mine was a 66 Chevelle, put a significant downpayment on for body off restoration by Steve Taylor of Steves Restorations in Sunderland Ontario. Steve and car disappeared and apparently was headed to work for Southwest Chevelles somewhere in Arizona. But was never able to track him (or them) down. He will have to answer for it someday, maybe he already has. Nice to see a good ending on this one though.

I'd love to find my 65 Impala SS vert. that was stolen by a mechanic I hired to work on it, he moved and took my car, another was a 73 Duster 340 4 spd guy owed me $500 on a trade for a 69 Roadrunner, that wasn't too bad though, glad to see someone find theirs for a change.

Back in the late 70's I had a clone Z/28 and parked it where I used to work out back. Two grubby guys came in and asked if I wanted to sell it, told them NO. I think they followed me home but I was a little smart for people back then as I had to leave several of my cars out in the driveway. I always disabled the coil and took off the coil wire. While sitting up stairs watching TV that night I was hearing noises in the driveway. Got the shotgun went out the back window and came up behind the grubby's. I called the cops and both were arrested, newer saw them again. Pretty easy to steal cars now with all the technology these days but back then you just had to be smarter than the crooks.
