I should clarify that would be years after 67, the post did not specify a year. I am not familiar with the earlier years.

The Chevrolet mid-sized body style (A-body) that was first introduced in 1964 is a Chevelle.
Within the Chevelle line, there are different levels of trim/pkgs. The 300 is a basic trim level of the Chevelle. The Malibu is an upper trim level of the Chevelle.
ORIGINALLY, the Super Sport (later to just become the SS) pkg was a trim level within the Malibu level and it was ONLY on the 2dr hardtop body. In later years, the SS became its own seperate pkg.
And of course, there were the different wagons.
But ALLLLLLLLLL of the above were Chevelles.
So, at one time, there was a Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Super Sport.
And in the very end, the Chevelle name was completely dropped and they were just Malibus.

A similar situation existed with the smaller size line of Chevrolets----the Chevy II.
Originally it was the Chevy II. The Nova was an upper trim level of the Chevy II and then there was the Nova Super Sport. In later years, it became just the Nova and then there was a Nova SS.

At one time (59-69), Chevrolet had a rear engine model with an air cooled flat 6cyl engine. All of these cars were Corvairs with different trim levels/pkgs, body styles (2-4drs, wagons, pickups, vans), such as corsa, spyder, greenbriar, etc, but they were all still Corvairs.

Does this help out?

In my opinion, since 1964 when chevelle was introduced, cause chevelle lettering was on all 64 chevelle front fenders in chrome lettering even ss cars, that all cars with the chevelle or malibu badge, would be chevelle cars. How ever in 1965 chevrolet did not badge the Malibu SS car with any chevelle logo on the car, but the 1965 car that was not a SS car did in fact have the chevelle logo on them. So in my opinion, a Malibu is a Chevelle, or a Chevelle is a Malibu, The body lines are the same through out the years on the Chevelle and Malibu. Good Luck On This Topic . Still Coufused !!! :noway:

Even though the 64-72 Chevrolet mid-sized (A-body) vehicle may or may not have been badged with the word CHEVELLE, IT WAS STILL A CHEVELLE.
ANY badge or emblem on a 64-72 Chevrolet A-body vehicle which was something such as Malibu, SS, Super Sport, Concours, 300, 300 Delux, etc, etc, etc, etc, or WHATEVER----------------IT WAS STILL A CHEVELLE---made by Chevrolet! The other emblems/badges simply identified WHICH model or trim level of Chevelle it was!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know how to explain it better than that!

The Corvette is a Chevrolet.
The Chevy II (or Nova) is a Chevrolet.
The Camaro is a Chevrolet.
The Corvair is a Chevrolet.
The Blazer is a Chevrolet.
The Silverado is a Chevrolet.
The Malibu, the SS, the Concours, the 300 (and Delux) are all Chevelles, made by Chevrolet.

I roll a '67 Chevelle that happens to be the trim level Malibu.

Sometimes hard to convince my fellow young bucks why the hood, tail panel, and steering wheel say Chevelle and the quarters and dash say Malibu. I was even told by an old man at a car show that my hood and tail panel badges were wrong, they didn't say Chevelle until 67. That was with my original badges! never pulled off the car!

What about the el camino? It's an a-body, so is it a chevelle? And, if it is a chevelle, then what about the sprint? The sprint is an el camino, therefore it's an a-body, therefore it's a chevelle, BUT it is NOT a Chevrolet:D

its crazy cuz on the fender it says malibu 350 then on the trunk it says chevelle

Why is that crazy, cars are still built the same way today. Look at a corvette z06 or zr1. Look at a cobalt ss. Look at the ford escort zx2.

I think the main reason why people get confused is because there are not to many cars that the trim package end up being a car later on in the future.

It's the same as saying you have a ford gt, is it the mustang with a gt package or an actual quarter million dollar ford gt?

It's the same as everything else: Make Model Trim: Chevrolet, Chevelle, Malibu. Sometimes the car doesn't get an "upgraded trim package" so you get a vehicle without a designated trim.
