Ok this is stemming from an issue I created back in June. Went to install a new Centerforce DF set up, and had a really hard time getting the trans all the way in. I used my old M22 input shaft to align the disc. It was getting hung up in the last half inch. So, I thought must be the new 656 pilot bushing I installed. Nope. A GM M22 input shafts fits just fine on its own in the new pilot bushing as it is installed in the crank. Somehow the CF clutch setup was causing the issue. I could not get the car in any gear with that clutch installed, even if I added .05" to pivot ball height, and pressed the throwout bearing against the pressure plate (yes I know not to do this, this was done only to eliminate the clutch throw as the culprit). When I would hit the clutch pedal I could feel the diaphram fully moving. So today I put my old clutch parts back in to see what would happen. Trans went right it with no issues whatsoever. Slid home into the bellhousing like butter. Get'er all bolted up, rear end up on jack stands, and fired her up to see how things would go.

Engine/Trans Cold:
-Car in neutral, rear wheels are spinning very slowly, slower than first gear at idle (obviously not supposed to happen).
-Can shift through all gears
-If I de-clutch and hold the break pedal there is no drop in RPM

Engine/Trans Warm:
-Wheels are spinning near 1st gear speed when in neutral
-Cannot shift into 1 and 2, can shift into 3 and 4, but they feel very "notchy"
-If I de-clutch and hold the break pedal there's about a 100 RPM drop on the tach.

Engine off:
-Shifts like butter through the grear pattern.
-When trans was forced inplace with CF lutch install, shifter felt very notchy in all gears

At this point I'm wondering if I damaged something in the transmission when I had a hard time getting it in place after the CF clutch install. Trans has about 500 miles on it, and experienced no issues before the CF clutch fiasco. What would have busted in the trans from basically forcing it forward for the last 1/2" into the bellhousing? Probably a dumb question, but an appropriate one after doing something as dumb as forcing the transmission into place.

Just pulled it all apart again. Flywheel deck height measures .984" measured by laying clutch surface on desk, and dropping the tail of the caliper through the flange bolt holes. I really think it's doubtfull I'm runing out of fork travel.

Here's what the intput looks like after I tore every thihng back apart. Looks like theres some bronze smeared on there. Does that indicate too much contact? Trans slip all the way fill very little effort once the splines on th eold clutch were lined up.

Fixed! Threw it all back together with the new cetnerforce clutch, and everything functions just as it should. I didn't do anything differently. I have absolutely no fricken clue what the problem was. Something do with a clutch release issue I'm guessing, but it ain't an issue now. Quite the head scratcher. The upshot is I had the transmission in and out of the car so many times, I can now get it out in about 35 minutes doing in on my back on the garage floor.

Trivia:
In 1970 when my LS-5 M-22 El Camino was new, Pulling the M-22 trans. while lying on my back was not an issue.
Fast forward 42 years, I am now in my 70s. I think something is wrong with my M-22. I think it is 3 or 4 times as heavy as it was in 1970.
NOW I have a jig bolted to my floor jack, To get it in and out.
What caused my tranny to gain so much weight? Also, Going to get my property re / Surveyed,,, I think my yard is getting bigger!
