Here are the pictures I just took
http://picasaweb.google.com/Joe.Palkovic/MuncieBlownGears?feat=directlink

We had just pulled a holeshot and wound 1st gear to about 6800, pulling like a you-know-what. Pushed in the clutch and boom.

I haven't done any research yet, but my guess is this is first gear....

I think I need more transmission. The old 355 is running well....

Kind of unusual carnage....usually much worse. Has it been grinding going into second gear at all??

What exactly does this mean?? You were at the strip and got the jump on the guy in the other lane? Or that you were on the street and did a hard 1st gear launch?? :confused:Just wondering,

OK - we were out in the country on an isolated road. It produces enough torque to baby it after the clutch dump and then just get into the secondaries. I'm actually kinda proud (in a weird kinda way) because my 355 has never run this well. It actually scared me a bit, it was all over the road. I'm afraid that I just simply have too much torque now. When I got into 3rd gear on the previous run, the ashtray flew out along with all the change in it - great acceleration!

All the other gears look fine as does the case.

One note - I purchased this used years ago with a new set of synchros and gaskets, etc. It has always had a rising and falling whine in first gear. Not sure if things were loose or what. I am not a tranny guy. I can tell you a lot about 67s since I went through this entire car with my sons. Something was amiss and I'm afraid I found the weak link.

If M21s are good for 400 ft/lbs, I know I am pushing the envelope.

This is a great site, thanks everyone. I am on a budget, but I would love to come up with a 500 ft/lb 4 speed that would retrofit in. Right now I am a 10 spline input (this is a 65). There are so many options out there. I hear that Borg Warners are better if you find the right one. There are a lot of places selling Muncie parts as well.

Oh well - it was a blast while it lasted. It will be back on the road again soon. :)

Atleast you have something to fix. Did about the same thing you did, but was going from 2nd to 3rd at about 6 grand, the trans exploded! Mine was caused by a worn shifter and worn linkage bushings. There might have also been a timing issue between the left foot and the right hand, LOL. Remember these trans are 30-40 yrs old and have had an extremely hard life. Check the case, make sure the counter shaft has not worn the case, fix it and drive. Thomas

I personally know of no Borg Warners that would take 400+ Ft Lbs. Stick with a Muncie, get a new Italian M22 gearset, and rebuild what you have.
