Yesterday a friend and I went to look at a
70 LS6 he wanted to purchase. The car was a feature car 10 years ago in a magazine.
On the cowl tag it has a B showing the body built or assembled in Baltimore. The vin had an "R" showing it was built in Arlington. Is this possible? The car has a June build date.

Rick,

In 1970 all Arlington built Chevelle's had a R in the VIN and on the cowl tag they used BT. Could you have mistaken the T for a number? No car would be built in Texas and have a body built in Baltimore. If what you say it true then this car is bogus!

BT stands for the Arlington Fisher Body Plant, maybe Big Texan? Lots of Fisher Plants had a 2 letter codes starting with a B in the 60's and early 70's.

Arlington 1963-70 BT
Baltimore 1959-64 BA
Doraville 1964-69 BA
Fremont 1965-69 BF
Los Angeles 1970-72 BL
Soouthgate 1964-70 BC
Wilmington 1964-70 BW

They used BT from 1963 thru 1970 model year. Starting in 1971 they used R. BTW - '70 was the first year thy built Chevelle's in Arlingtion, up till then only full size Chevy's.
