Unfortunatly, my chevelle has been put on hold for a few months.
Last summer I bought a Turbocharged Cobalt SS and FOR A front wheel drive car it is a blast to drive!. This summer took it to the dragstrip twice and a few autocrosses.

There is a company called Pedders, that makes lower spring for my car with very similar spring rates so it still handles awesome. They will lower the car 1"

How will tha affect CV joint? struts/shocks? traction?

They are haveing a group buy for 300 so I have to make a decision within a few day.

1" shouldn't even be hardly noticeable, but it will still be wrong wheel drive ;)

I agree. With the half shafts there shouldn't be any issues.

As for the wrong wheel drive. When I was 16, My parents had a V6 4speed Citation. That think would carry the rear wheels 10' when you did a reverse hole shot...

The only thing I have noticed is they seem to wear out the wheel bearings prematurely after being lowered.
I know one shop here local (now closed as the fad seems to have died out) that did that kind of work would only agree to do it if he was allowed to put in new bearings. (not stock)
Make sure you have the alignment reset after lowering!

You will need a good 4 wheel alignment after they are installed. Some of the angles will change, but not that drastic. You might want to watch cleareances with the wheels, as those 18"s take up some room. The wheels are out a bit more to because of the Brembo brakes, so body rub might happen on the rears.

Do you also drive this car in the winter? That drop might put you closer to snow in Michigan and the pot holes in the road.

Do they include new stops with the springs? As I wonder how the over travel is controlled with them. When I put on the Hotchkis springs on my Chevelle, they included new bump stops for the front.

I have also read that some of the Eibach springs have been breaking lately for these cars. Do you know the quality of the metal that they are using? I never heard of Pedders until a few weeks ago.

I just recently bought an 09 Cobalt SS 4 door, so I have been reading up on different things for this car. It is fun to drive, rides nice, fast, and gets great gas mileage.

Let us know what you decide to do and how everything works out.

Thanks for the responces.

We have a hunter laser alignment rack at work so an alignment shouldnt be a problem.

Bill, as you know our car were tuned at nuremburg. From the research I have done the pedder springs work very with the TC struts. They handle great, ride nice and have a mild drop in that order.

The Eibach give a nice low stance but they are known to bind and not handle very well. My plan to buy the Pedder prings because they are on sale for $300 (vs 360) and I will plan to install them in the spring after winter. Hopefully the following winter I will have a beater, if not its only an inch and I have snow tires.
