Not a bad combo I had a similar combo to that about 10 years ago in a 72 GMC. Ran high14's in a 4900LB 4x4, It had the edelbrock performer cam same 218/228, .500'' as yours. Only difference is mine had #360 peanut heads. It was just a 1990 GM crate engine with that cam, and a performer intake, 7.8:1 CR. I allways figured it would have run easy 12's in a car. Was in the truck when I bought it, ran so good I never messed with it. Drove the truck for two years, and ended up selling the truck back to the guy.

454regal,

Got a name?
Hope for bottom-feeder 454s everywhere!!!!
Great runs....spanked hell outa my bud nearly 2/10 with the 454HO and 4.11s/2500stall/big DRs and a lotta bolt-on suspension work. Running slicks? The 1.9 sec 60' has me thinking you were using DRs.
What you have there is a pretty well thought-out combo....obviously no beginner
Weight of car? Full street trim or what?

Same sorta engine in my pal's old dualie....he could fry 'em and pass most everything going uphill.

Well my 87 regal has gone through some weight reduction but not much all steel bumbers with the bumber supports "cut out" i only left the peice to mount the bumbers to the frame did this mod to both bumbers, manual steering box,no front sway bar, sound deading removed, swiss cheese some parts of the frame,1 door crash beam removed driver side,5 gallon fuel cell,no ac,no spare or jack, aluminum i-roc z radiator with plastic end tanks,bm tranny cooler, hacked up aluminum radiator core support just enough to support the radiator, steel gn chrome rims,on 27x10.5 et streets launching of idle i tried to give some rpm but it spun too bad.Funny thing is everyone thought it was a real gn i will be posting pics soon.Im going to throw on a ram air box,kn stubstack, more suspension mods and weight reduction, looking for some more mph and better traction.stock gn stall converter 2200 rpm-2400 rpm.

Ok guys what else ca i do to up my mph? i plan on doing some more wight reduction, and suspension mods to get the 60ft down since i cant leave with any rpm have to launch of idle, peak torque seems to come in at about 2200 RPM.I dont want to take the heads off since they have just been fully rebuilt.I dont want to touch the cam.Ram air box,kn stub stack, new rockers aluminum, and some rear suspension upgrades.Should i swith to 3.73 gears or leavethe 3.42 in there?

I've got a 78 4dr malibu that weighs 3900 with me in it, 10-1 049 oval ports stock valves ports all that. 3.50 gears weiand dual plane intake to loose of stall and its been 12.90s on some 275 60 15 true radials. with 1.89 60's, it has the stock v6 front springs under. it sits pretty low in the front, I would prolly recommend some moroso trick springs for the front and checking the front a-arms make sure they are moving freely. a lot of guys on malibu racing recommend those coil over springs for the rear 14" 130lb per inch I think they are

454regal (name?) :)
what RPM you crossing the stripe at now?
I would leave the 3.42's in there...maybe a bigger carb for a little more MPH or more stall for a better 60 ft.
107 MPH is good for 12.30-12.50 depending on the 60 ft.

HA! We used to have a 87 GN with almost that same license plate # the 1st 5 are the same. Car's must have been lisenced the same day within minutes of each other. My dad just sold it last year, it was an original 48,000 mile GN.

Roberto....
Considering no serious compression and the RV nature of your cam....you may get another mph outa her but I do not see much more coming....

I agree...I can't remember exactly who,but there was another TCer that had a 70 SS 454 that used that cam..car was an auto w/3.73 gears and ran almost identical ET/MPH as Roberto's car
I would focus on getting the 60 ft. down into the high 1.7/low 1.8 range and get the most of your current MPH

That kind of 60' isn't going to happen with real street tires on that car. The sixties he's getting now are fantastic for a G.M. "G" body car with a stock type converter and real street tires. P.S..... Yes, on the loss of bite and mph with decreased tire pressure. A belted tire rolls better with plenty of air in it and lays down a flatter pattern also.

Harold,he has ET Streets...if he gets a better convertor,he'll get into the range I mentioned.
Current convertor is too tight...

All I'll say is that car hauls-as$ for what it has in it! Sounds mean too even with no CR and the modest cam!

Roberto, the air box and other things are like small pebbles...get enough of them and you fill a shoe box! But it becomes $50-$200 at every corner for this stuff. Some return on investment but not the best money spent.

I'd get the rear suspension dialed-in. mr 4 speed has experience with the Regals and G-Bodies so he can tell ya what works and what doesn't. New Lower control arms/box what ya have and get UMI re-lo kit maybe air bags 10# pass/5# dvr side....

I have 3.42 in my Elky that will get 454 power soon. See "Super Budget 454" thread. I bought a HUGHES GM-25 converter....a fair compromise for mostly street/some strip.
action. I think with the wicked nature of your car...maybe a 2800-3000 stall. Looking around and talking to a few of the NW guys....more converter gets you better ETs than more gear..... You may lose a bit of mph with more converter stall but I'll be thinking about more mph within your constraints. But each .10 sec you cut off your 60' time is roughly .20 sec at the top end......
